As trail riders I want you to enjoy the romance of the days gone by. So put your feet in the boots of the American Cowboy. In the west the saddle was not only a tool that was used everyday by the cowboy, but was a symbol of stature. Here are some known facts:
The average “Rig” cost between $30 to $50. Our American Cowboy used to earn about a dollar a day.
Many cowboys did not have a horse so there saddle needed to be versatile and was an important possession. They needed something tough and dependable! A quality light weight saddle would weigh about 28 pounds.
Now change your boots and ride with a soldier from the US Calvary. His saddle was pretty bare bones. Mostly a tree covered with leather, some stirrup fenders and 3 point rigging which adjusted well too many type of horses. The saddle was simple and less expensive than existing saddles, light enough not to burden the horse, but sturdy enough to give good support to the rider and his gear.
Both saddles had served a “form to function” and both saddles allowed the modern man of it’s time, to be successful with their mission.
The MileMakers saddle was created based on these two ideals of the past and captures the romance of days gone by with modern day comfort.
- Observe the open seat Spanish style of the Calvary seat. The MileMakers saddle has a covered leather tree and padded seat….this is modern Calvary with comfort!
- The fenders of the saddle are placed balanced under the riders shoulder and seat bone line to ensure a balanced rider for better equitation.
- The pommel or swell of the MileMakers saddle is wide with no horn. This helps the rider sit a broncy horse or support themselves on uneven terrain
- The MileMakers saddle styles a short skirt to decrease weight and also to complement a short back horse.
- The rigging on the MileMakers Endurance is a 3-point system which allows the rider to adjust the girth to the conformation of the horse being ridden. The 3-point rigging gives the horse better freedom of movement, this was another design implemented by the US Calvary and 1800’s Cowboy
- Last the weight of the saddle is about 22 pounds. Quality weighs.

Synergist Saddles are of the close contact type and built for balance. They offer a combination of a Dressage style seat in a more secure Western tree. The stirrups are hung underneath you and aligned with the seat to promote a "centered" or "balanced riding" position. This allows the rider to ride with the action of the horse instead of behind it. The seat is contoured to position your thigh in proper alignment with the body's vertical axis promoting "Balanced Riding" which eliminates back, knee, and ankle pain.
MileMakers has developed this saddle style and design by combining a calvary style with an 1800's Cowboy flair. The difference is more comfort and less weight! Made and handcrafted in the USA!
